WWE boss Vince McMahon is said to be interested in buying Newcastle United FC.
The chairman and chief executive of the professional wrestling promotion has been linked to the North East football club.
While no official bid has been made, "tentative talks" at a very early stage over a possible purchase have begun, according to Winner Sports.
The site claims that McMahon hopes to expand both his business interests and use a base in England to promote WWE, with bouts at Newcastle United's home ground of St James's Park for wrestling events.
Current Newcastle United FC owner Mike Ashley bought the club in 2007 but put it up for sale a year later.
He took the club off the market in October 2009 after struggling to find a buyer following the team's relegation from the Premier League.
Newcastle United were promoted back into the top flight in 2010, but Ashley has remained a controversial figure among fans following the sale of Andy Carroll and, more recently, Yohan Cabaye.
Digital Spy has reached out to both the WWE and Newcastle United FC for comment.
In response to the rumours, bookmaker NextBet.co.uk mocked up a possible first XI and subs bench based on Superstars from the current WWE roster.
